Education Rebuild
2008-11-12 14:31:04Hundreds of primary schools in England will be getting rebuilt, after ministers release £1.75bn for approved building work. Over 1,500 rebuilding/refurbishing projects are planned, and will be begin across 133 local authorities over the next 2 years. The remaining 15 local councils will be offered advice on what to do to bring their plans up to speed.
The projects are all part of the Primary Capital Programme, which is investing £7bn into refurbishing/rebuilding half of all primary schools by 2022/23.
The 15 councils which didn't satisfy the DCSF's plans are:
- Bristol
- Halton
- Hammersmith & Fulham
- Herefordshire
- Leicestershire
- Liverpool
- Medway
- North Lincolnshire
- Northamptonshire
- Northumberland
- Nottingham
- Sheffield
- Shropshire
- Southend-on-Sea and
- Turrock
These councils will have consultants sent in to help revise their plans and money is hoped to be released to these areas by April 2009.
