A new survey by Halifax has found that 10% of people are more accident prone during the yuletide festivities and people should therefore take notice of their home insurance policies and what they actually cover - particularly whether their contents insurance covers accidental damage or not.

The survey found:

• 9% of Brits damage their homes at Xmas
  • 55% spilling food and drink
  • 27% breaking valuables
