Hep C Sufferers Face Insurance Discrimination

2008-10-10 15:14:44

People with Hepatitis C and similar diseases are facing increasing discrimination from the life insurance industry. With at least 500,000 people in the UK affected by the disease, the industry has no specific guidelines for the treatment of those hoping to take out life cover.

According to the ABI, sufferers are treated with upmost respect and with sensitivity. Also, if you have had a test for Hep C, but the result came back negative, there is no need in announcing this to the insurance provider. But those that have been given a positive result for the disease, and others, such as HIV, need to seek specialist advice to find the cover that is right for them.
