The Ludicrous Charges for Changing Cash

2009-01-02 11:12:00

Banks seem to get away with anything nowadays - how they can charge people for simple things such as changing money, is beyond me. But Lloyds TSB have been criticised for doing just that.

A teacher from Merseyside has complained about the excessive handling fees that he was faced with when he went into his local branch to exchange two £20 notes and a £10 note for a £50 note. The purpose of the swap was for a gift for his niece.

However, to do such an easy task, he was told he would be charged a £5 handling fee - why? Because he wasn't a Lloyds TSB customer. If he had been a customer, he wouldn't have been charged. Why do banks feel the need to charge non-customers ridicuolous fees? It's just daft.
